The Soldier Mountains lie on central Idaho’s most southerly parameters and are bounded by the Camas Prairie to its south and the Smoky Mountains to its north. A small range covering a region only 30 miles by 15 miles, its striking domineer of towering peaks and pristine river-filled valleys more than make up for such a minor inadequacy. Being outside the hiking mainstream of Central Idaho’s main ranges, this is the place to really find solitude and isolation. The majority of the range must be accessed on trail-less terrain, however few dense stands of tree exist, making such access relatively easy. Only a few mountain lakes can be found at the base of the ranges two larges peak. Hiking, climbing, mountain biking, skiing and ski mountaineering opportunities are abundant. |
