Nearly all of Idaho's major rivers are public domain.  Out of Idaho's total 53 million total acres, more than 20,351,874 acres are managed by the U.S. Forest Service, and another 12,113,193 acres are controlled by the United States Bureau of Land Management.  Private interests compile a meager 19,106,505 acres.  21.6 million acres of forests cover Idaho also, giving it the distinction of being the most heavily timbered state of the lower 48.  And let us not forget,  with the exception of the Snake River Plain, all of Idaho is covered in a sea of mountains.   Within this vast enormity of public lands, forest and mountains lay this country's most extensive network of white water and wilderness rivers.  Federally designated Idaho Wild and Scenic Rivers, include the Selway, Middle Fork of the Salmon, the Main Salmon, Snake, Middle Fork of the Lochsa and the Clearwater.  Additional Idaho rivers under study for Wild and Scenic designation include the henry's Fork, Priest, Falls, Bruneau, Owyhee, the Jarbidge and portions of the Snake.  With such a vast network of wild and scenic river's it is no wonder Idaho is the choice, the world over for a Whitewater Adventure.
